Meet Our Dentists

Dr. Larry Miles

Dr. Miles was born and raised in Hazlehurst. He attended the Jeff Davis County schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. He received his BS in Chemistry from the University of Georgia in 1993. After graduation, he worked at an industrial plastic packaging plant in quality control and sales for 7 years.

In 2005, Dr. Miles graduated from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. He is a member of the Georgia Dental Association and the American Dental Association, participates on the Georgia Dental Association awards committee, and is an annual participant of the Georgia Dental Legislative Dinners. After graduation, Dr. Miles moved to Albany and practiced dentistry with Dr. John David Whittle for 11 months. After Dr. Whittle passed away, Dr. Miles merged the practice with Dental Partners of Southwest Georgia in 2008.

Dr. Miles married Virginia Ashley Williams, who was born in Albany. They have two children, Rosalie Holladay Miles and Adaline Carrington Miles. Dr. Miles is a member of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church Albany and contributes to many local charities. His hobbies include golf and hunting.

Dr. Amanda Merritt

Dr. Amanda Merritt is a south Georgia native, born and raised in the Valdosta area. She graduated 3rd in her class from Berrien High School and went on to attend Valdosta State University, where she graduated Cum Laude. In 2005, she earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. Dr. Merritt then completed a General Practice residency, where she received training in implant dentistry and sedation dentistry.

Dr. Merritt joined Dental Partners of Southwest Georgia in 2009. Prior to that time, she practiced in Fitzgerald and Valdosta. Dr. Merritt is a member of the American Dental Association, the Georgia Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry. She served as the President of the Southwestern District of the Georgia Dental Association from 2011 to 2012.

Giving back to her community through volunteer work is important to Dr. Merritt. She is involved with Give Kids A Smile and numerous other free dental clinics. Dr. Merritt is married to Jay Merritt of Fitzgerald. They have two children, Dalton and Annabelle.

Dr. Thomas Wright

Dr. Wright is a 2005 graduate of the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry in Augusta. After dental school, he completed the General Practice Residency at MCG to enhance his general dentistry skills and to provide advanced services. This residency training allows him to offer more comprehensive treatment to medically compromised patients, as well as IV conscious sedation for patients with dental anxiety or other problems that inhibit dental work. His residency training also prepared him to perform oral surgical procedures such as wisdom teeth extraction, oral bone grafts, and placement of dental implants.

Patient safety and well-being come first for Dr. Wright, and he regularly seeks continuing education in general dentistry. Dr. Wright is licensed to perform intravenous sedation to aid in various oral surgical procedures.

Born in nearby Blakely, Dr. Wright returned to the south to serve the area and residents who supported and equipped him for his profession. The Wright family is actively involved in their church, Gillionville Baptist, and also serves on the foreign mission field in Honduras, where Dr. Wright provides dental work for residents in need. An avid huntsman and fisherman, Dr. Wright takes every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.

Dr. William Askey

Dr. William Askey was born and raised in Albany, GA. He graduated from Lee County High School in 2012, then attended Darton State College, where he earned his AA in Biological Science in 2014. After this, Dr. Askey transferred to the University of Georgia and earned his BS in Biology in 2016.

Dr. Askey graduated from LECOM School of Dental Medicine in Bradenton, FL. At LECOM, he served on Student Government all four years of dental school, and served as Student Body President in his third year. Dr. Askey was also the recipient of the International College of Dentists, USA Section: Student Leadership Award and the Distinguished Leadership Award. Dr. Askey is a member of the American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry.

In his free time, Dr. Askey enjoys playing music, spending time with friends and family, and watching sports, especially the Georgia Bulldogs!
